Abstract

This study aims to analyze the microbicidal activity of three different contact lens care solutions and their Equate brand generic. The disinfecting capability of each solution against P. aeruginosa and C. albicans is tested in 9 and 6 separate trials, respectively, according to the Quantitative Analysis Procedure. Results are reported as reduction factors of the original inoculation concentration. Against Pseudomonas, Clearcare, Equate H2O2 based product and Equate Moisture Last had significant reduction from the control. Equate Moisture Last showed significantly higher reduction than Biotrue. Against Candida, all tested solutions showed significant reduction from the control. No pairs showed significant differences in reduction. No significant differences exist is the microbicidal activity of name brands versus Equate generics.
