Description of Program

My presentation will introduce a brief history of the High Scope Curriculum including the purpose of this research, the key points that make up this curriculum, and the long-term benefits to student's being taught using this approach. It will detail when and how this curriculum was founded as well as the ways in which other theorists such as Piaget have influenced its methods. I will give examples of two main studies that review the High-Scope Curriculum and provide a timeline showing the evolution of this approach. Going into further detail on one study, I will compare the long-term benefits to students using the High-Scope curriculum as apposed to three other teaching methods. There will then be an example given of how the High-Scope curriculum has looked within a teacher's classroom and details on how it may be beneficial to both students and teacher to break against traditional teacher "norms" and taking a different approach. Finally I will discuss the challenges and solutions on using this curriculum approach in classrooms today and what that may look like.
