Description of Program

Service-learning in criminal justice is an under-utilized pedagogical tool in the undergraduate curriculum. Studies within criminal justice have had small sample sizes and usually examine outcomes for one semester. We hope to contribute to the literature on service-learning in the criminal justice curriculum by examining eight semesters of critical reflection papers. We will be exploring the students reflections through a qualitative descriptive analyses, seeking to describe the content or themes in their writing. We will also be exploring differences and similarities in the content and themes across groups that had face-to-face interactions and those who did not in their service-learning project.
