Abstract

Course syllabus for FIN 455 Financial Institutions and Markets

Course description: The Financial Institutions and Markets course focuses on the practice of finance the settings of institutions, financial markets, and financial management. We review the role of savings in an economy, we discuss the determinants of interest rates, we study the issue of raising funds in the institutional and market environments, and we learn about the effect of regulation/deregulation on the financial system and the firm. Lectures and class discussion are supplemented with practice problems, and outside readings. Quantitative techniques are introduced to facilitate analysis.
