A great American filmmaker will be appearing at Governors State University Her presentation will include screenings of her work and a Q & A session. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

Maria Finitzo is a two-time Peabody award winning social-issue documentary filmmaker and a winner of the 2016 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, one of the highest honors in broadcast journalism. She has been producing and directing documentary films for network television for more than 25 years and is now branching out into dramatic directing. Ms. Finitzo’s work demonstrates a depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise, tackling a wide variety of subjects including the science of stem cell research, nuclear weaponry, the realities of life on a minimum wage, and the psychology of adolescent girls.

She is also an outspoken advocate for women filmmakers. Her most recent documentary, In the Game, screened at 2016 SXSWedu. It follows four years in the life of a girls’ soccer team at a Chicago inner city high school.
