Abstract

Mental Health Association in California (MHAC) is a community – based nonprofit that provides advocacy and education for state decisions in Sacramento and in all communities throughout the state. Focus has been placed on the State of California as it ranks 23rd of the 50 states in mental healthcare in terms of treatment of mental health issues and access to treatment. This competition asked us to provide a holistic approach to mental health care in the state of California along with the proposed budget, grants required for the model and other financial aspects and planning and implementation of the model. Our plan was addressed by a partnership with SHARP hospitals in California who are performing well especially on the mental health front. Recruitment will primarily concentrate on low risk population segments. Increasing access to healthcare services will require implementation of telehealth services for people living in rural areas without access, an increased workforce, and use of California county programs along with clinics. Another program that will help bring more awareness and accessibility to mental health services is our plan of including specific services for Veterans and their families who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The model will be based on footsteps of Recovery Model with some enhancements to include more holistic approach, integrated healthcare and evidence based care to improve the outcomes.
