Presenter

Xin Chen, Ph.D., is a Professor of Industrial Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His research focuses on network and knowledge-centric collaborative control with applications in supply chain logistics, air and airport traffic control, critical infrastructure protection and management, energy distribution, and social networks.

Reggie Greenwood has significant experience in education, public economic development, and private sector management of manufacturing companies. He is currently the Executive Director for the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation and the Director of the Supply Chain Innovation Center and Business Incubator at Governors State University. Reggie has worked with multiple partners to develop an Integrated Education, Workforce and Economic Development Strategy for the Chicago Southland.

Naira Hovakimyan, Ph.D. is currently W. Grafton and Lillian B. Wilkins Professor of Mechanical Science and Engineering and the Director of AVIATE Center of UIUC. She is a Fellow of AIAA, IEEE, ASME, and senior member of NAI, and she is cofounder and chief scientist of Intelinair. Her work was featured in the New York Times, on Fox TV and CNBC.
She is the 2011 recipient of AIAA Mechanics and Control of Flight Award, the 2015 recipient of SWE Achievement Award, the 2017 recipient of IEEE CSS Award for Technical Excellence in Aerospace Controls, and the 2019 recipient of AIAA Pendray Aerospace Literature Award. In 2014 she was awarded the Humboldt prize for her lifetime achievements.

Olu Ijose, PhD has significant experience as a faculty, in university administration, grants writing and program management, and private sector management consulting and business operations. He is currently an Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Governors State University. Olu is responsible for contract administration, academic technology, faculty development and grants for the Provost Office. As a professor, Olu teaches International Business, Strategic Management, Labor Relations, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management and a variety of Human Resource Management courses.

Description of Program

The Advancing Smart Logistics (ASL) initiative, a National Science Foundation Engine, aims to build a collaborative ecosystem focused on developing and deploying innovative, sustainable, and equitable transportation logistics solutions for the public good. By bringing together diverse stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and communities, ASL will foster knowledge sharing through innovation hubs, workforce development programs, and strategic investments, addressing critical challenges like environmental justice, economic opportunity, and supply chain resilience. This initiative seeks to ensure that the benefits of technological advancements in areas such as automation, cybersecurity, and green technologies are broadly accessible, while also maintaining U.S. leadership in this crucial sector, ultimately creating a more efficient, resilient, and inclusive logistics future.
