Abstract

The publication of the University Statistical Abstract marks the second publication of one of our major planning documents. Every attempt has been made to improve upon our initial publication. Your suggestions for improving the content and format are solicited.

The following tabular presentation briefly describes the contents of the University Statistical Abstract 1979 to allow the user easy reference to those segments that deal with the reader's immediate area of concern:

Admissions - Tabulates GSU applicants, admittees, and registrants by term, race, and sex from the Fall of 1976 to the Fall of 1978. In addition, applicants, admittees, and registrants are reported by academic program for the same time period.

Enrollment - Presents a demographic profile of currently enrolled students at gSU for Fall, 1976, 1977, and 1978. Students are aggregated according to the following data elements: total numbers; full-time versus part-time; on and off campus; full-time equivalency; student level, program and major; age; race; sex; and student load. The largest junior colleges contributing to GSU enrollments are also reported.

Degrees Conferred - Actual degrees awarded are listed by level, college, and program for the last five years. For fiscal years 1977, 1978, and 1979, the University's graduates are also accounted for by level, sex, and race.

Professional Personnel - All professional personnel, both administrative and teaching, are reported on the basis of the programmatic affiliation, sex, race, highest degree, and tenure status. Reaching faculty only are further studied in terms of their teaching loads, average hours worked per week, and the institutions where they obtained their highest degrees.

Financial Resources - This section reports the University's operating appropriations for Fiscal Years 1977 through 1980. The University's resources are tabulated by source of funds, object classification, and functional activities. For Fiscal Years 1979 and 1980, budgets are also presented by administrative units, line item, and function. Secondly, student financial aid data are given by source of funds, numbers of awards, and average award size for Fiscal Years 1977 through 1979.

Physical Facilities - GSU physical facilities are categorized by type and usage and related to the University populations utilizing certain types of space. Student usage of regular classrooms and labs are shown in different manners.

Learning Resource Center - Increases in the University's LRC collection, in terms of books, films, non-print items, and titles, are shown for the last three fiscal years. Secondly, the adequacy of our holdings are measured against two nationally-recognized sets of standards.

State-Wide Comparative Data - GSU budgetary allocations to functional activities and staffing levels by employment category are compared with the remainder of the State. In addition, GSU per-credit-hour instructional costs are related to their appropriate state means for each level of instruction. A similar analysis is the presented for GSU faculty loads and instructional costs by degree program. Actual expenditures for Fiscal 1978, by category of assignment, only for commuter campuses, are shown, thus comparing GSU with the other four commuter institutions in the State.
