Abstract

Course syllabus for MGMT 530 International Management

Course description: The course focuses on the economic transformation currently taking place in the Eastern German States and in Czechoslovakia, and on the management problems arising from the privatization of numerous, formerly state-owned, enterprises. The conceptual differences between planned and market-driven economies and between authoritarian and free societies will be stressed to place current difficulties in as broad a perspective as possible. Participants will meet with the leaders of firms investing in Central Europe, with governmental officials assisting in the transformation process and with managers involved in privatization efforts. Differences between the German and Czechoslovakian experiences will be noted. The course is open only to students participating in the international business tour of Germany and Czechoslovakia, June 29-July 11, 1992.
