Abstract
Latino parents and families are the key to their children’s academic success and play a large role in the college selection process. Recognizing this fact, The South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium and Governors State University’s Project Exito have developed “The Road to College.
”“This workshop was designed to address Latino parents’ concerns about college,” said Genevieve Boesen, executive director of the consortium. “In many cases, this is the first time Latino families are dealing with the process of attending college and need as much information as they can to help their children make informed decisions.
The workshops, which will be presented in Spanish and English, will address important issues like paying for college, understanding financial aid, resources for immigrant students, and general college preparatory tips.
