Abstract
Artists from just about every genre have been celebrating the seasons in song for decades. Simon and Garfunkel shared their Hazy Shade of Winter in 1966. Kid Rock made summer famous in his 2008 hit All Summer Long. Folk pianist George Winston developed an almost cult-like following for his albums entitled for the seasons. The connection between music and nature has always intrigued and inspired artists.
Now on January 24 at 4 p.m. Lyric Opera tenor and long-time supporter of the arts at GSU, John Concepcion, will host and narrate a musical program that not only celebrates the seasons, it illumines a veritable who’s who of classical music. Seasons of Song features the music of Carlisle Floyd, George Gershwin, Samuel Barber, Franz Schubert, Stephen Sondheim, Oscar Hammerstein, and many others.
