Abstract
Background and purpose: The purpose of this case report is to describe the progression of an adolescent male through physical therapy who had a post-operative open reduction and fixation surgery due to a fracture of his tibial tuberosity from a sporting injury. Case Description: The patient is a 16 year old male who presented to outpatient physical therapy 3 weeks post-surgical fixation of the tibial tuberosity on his left lower extremity. Over the course of rehabilitation, the patient was treated with a wide variety of interventions to increase his functional mobility in order to return to activities of daily living.
Outcome: Although the patient missed a few weeks of therapy, as he progressed through rehabilitation there was a significant increase in functional mobility over the course of 8 treatment sessions.
Discussion: Physical Therapy rehabilitation post-surgical fixation of tibial tuberosity is an effective way in improving functional mobility in order to return to activities of daily living
