Abstract

This article is a follow-up to an article published by Dr. Anton Lewis (one of this article’s coauthors)** Following the “racial reckoning” of 2020 public accounting firms were very vocal about the ways in which racial equity was a priority for them going forward. Now, almost three years after the murder of George Floyd that sparked the global reckoning, it doesn’t seem like much has changed within the profession or within our broader society. We note a need to transform several ‘pieces to the puzzle’ which include 1) accounting industry messaging, 2) the classroom experience, 3) workforce focus, 4) institutional practices and 5) overall pipeline/ retention.
