Abstract
n my research, I will use Alice Walker’s definition of womanism as a ground upon which to offer an alternative principle to undergird our systems of government and an alternative teleology of life. I will argue for the reconstruction of a system that does away with the principle of devastation – the commoditization and abstracting of human life, and all life – and the morality that operates under that principle. I will offer for us a vision rooted in a principle of love – creative compassion, flourishing, justice or wholeness – and a subsequent morality that both demands we recognize each person’s moral capacity or ability to name, and that forces us to have to deal with how we have related, are relating, and consider how we shall relate to each other as humans/body-selves. All this rooted in a heuristic of love -- the movement of love that facilitates the ebb-and-flow of being and becoming that can sufficiently -- as it does for an individual person -- move entire nations and even the world into more than what we are today.
