Abstract

Course syllabus for ART 518 Women Artists

Course description: This course is a historical survey of Western female artists. Special emphasis will be given to female artists of the 19th and 20th Centuries. An examination will be made of the lives and works of eminent female artists, the social, political, and artistic climate in which they worked, and the artistic contributions they made. There will be an analysis of the thematic and stylistic development and theoretical concerns of female artists. Finally, there will be a comparative analysis of the differences between major male and female artists of the period.
