Abstract

Course syllabus for CDIS 87 Independent Study in History, Philosophy, and Professional Aspects of Communication Disorders

Course description: This course will review the history and current state of the field of Communication Disorders, including the philosophical and methodological influences of the three disciplines out of which it grew: psychology, medicine, and speech. It will include the functions of the national professional organization, state and national certification guidelines, career opportunities, etc. Communication Disorders will be compared to other related fields and socio-political influences will be explored.
