Abstract
Course syllabus for CDIS 840 Craniofacial Anomalies
Course description: Initially we will consider the overall nature of the problem of cleft lip/cleft palate and other orofacial anomalies. We will examine current medical, dental, and audiologic approaches to the treatment of patients with these problems. Psychosocial developmental factors in craniofacial anomalies will be discussed, as well as the physiology of velopharyngeal valving itself. Finally, the communicative disorders associated with these anomalies and especially the diagnosis and treatment of these communicative disorders will be considered in detail. In groups of not more than five people and in the last month of this class, we will arrange to visit the Northwestern University School of Dentistry's Cleft Palate Clinic in Chicago.
