Abstract
Course syllabus for ECON 66A Advanced Consumer Economics for Teachers
Course description: This course provides an in-depth study of the topics required by the Illinois law mandating that consumer education be taught in grades 8-12 in Illinois public schools. Topics covered will include credit, insurance, investments, housing, transportation, money management, government finance, and international consumer issues. The course will also examine the consumer as a worker and entrepreneur and the role of citizens in a market-oriented economy. Several sessions will have a forum format, which will provide teachers an opportunity for personal dialogue with leaders from business, government, labor, education, and consumer-interest groups.
