Abstract

Course syllabus for ENGL 301 Composition: Structure and Style

Course description: English 301 covers the structure of standard English, from the basics of punctuation to sophisticated questions of usage and style. This course is designed to reinforce the students' command of the English language and their ability to write for other content-specific courses and in the workplace. Although the course provides some limited work in what are generally called "mechanics," the major emphasis will be on the process of writing including such matters as focus, organization, purpose, unity, coherence, and perhaps most importantly, on the generation and revision of written material.
