Abstract
Course syllabus for ENGL 850 Seminar: American Literature Studies in American Realism: Reflecting on Selected Works by Louise Erdrich, John Oliver Killens, and Toni Morrison
Course description: English 850 focuses on a period, theme, or author in American literature. Typically, students read both primary and secondary literary works and secondary critical and historical analyses.
Since this is a graduate seminar, students will do a large portion of the talking. Individual students will be designated as discussion leaders for particular novels or plays, but all students are responsible for close reading of all assigned work. Therefore, you must come to class prepared to intellectually explore the assigned text.
