Abstract
Course syllabus for HLAD 801 Health Care Sociology
Course description: This course is designed to explore the diverse field of Medical Sociology in a broad manner with additional emphasis on selected subtopics of the discipline. In doing so, the course covers the fundamental concepts of the field and their application to various topics of interest to Medical Sociologists. These topics include: the social definition of health and illness, the American health care system, access to medical care, utilization of health services, epidemiology, the patient-practitioner relationship, the health professions, the organization of health care, and medical ethics.
