Abstract
Course syllabus for MIS 440 Telecommunications and Distributed Data Systems
Course description: Provides an introduction to the basic telecommunications concepts and terminology. Introduces the technical details of communications systems (voice communications and data communications) . Topics specifically covered include telephone systems, coding and data encryption, data terminals, terminal to communication lines interface, communications protocols, PC-to mainframe communications, local area networks, telecommunications architecture and standards. Discusses the environment in which telecommunications exists within a company and also the external environment, including topics like deregulation and divestiture. Students are also introduced to the fundamentals of telecommunications management, network design and implementation.
