Abstract
Course syllabus for STAT 820 Experimental Design for the Natural Sciences
Course description: For graduate students of Environmental Biology. The course reviews statistical concepts from basic probability distributions through hypothesis testing and one-way analyses of variance, with focus on the practical and theoretical inter-connections of statistics and experimental design. Also covers research logic and specific types of research designs from pre-experimental through true experimental set-ups, as well as selected advanced statistical procedures such as multi-way ANOVAs, blocked and nested ANOVAs and discriminant analysis. Includes practical experience in designing unique experimental set-ups for specific research problems. To be taken before thesis/project work.
