Description of Program

This presentation explores leadership development and community building gained at the Tau Sigma National Leadership Conference in San Antonio. Through workshops and peer conversations, officers reflected on leadership identity and collaboration, gaining strategies to better support transfer students and strengthen their chapter’s purpose and impact.

Abstract

This presentation reflects on the leadership development, professional growth, and community-building experiences gained from attending the Tau Sigma National Honor Society Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout the conference, officers attended sessions focused on leadership identity, effective communication, member engagement, and long-term organizational planning. These experiences encouraged officers to reflect on their individual leadership styles and the responsibilities they hold as student leaders representing transfer students on our campus. By engaging in conversations with peers from other higher educational institutions, officers gained insight into shared challenges faced by transfer students nationwide, as well as innovative strategies used by other chapters to foster inclusion, retention, and academic success. This presentation highlights key takeaways from the conference, including the importance of adaptability in leadership, collaboration across institutions, and creating spaces where transfer students feel valued and supported. Officers will also discuss how national-level involvement reshaped their understanding of leadership beyond the campus level and reinforced the impact of student-led advocacy.
