Abstract
For the purposes of surveillance, emergency services – search and rescue, disaster management, environmental and scientific research, perceiving the environment along with determining what is being perceived is the most crucial step. By using drones or UAVs in general, the above use cases can be best considered because they have huge potential as they have the best areal flexibility. FODD CV - Floating Objects Detection using Drones & Computer Vision, is a drone that specializes in detection of floating objects in heavy water environments like lakes, rivers, and seas. By using computer vision, we can perceive, detect, and classify what the floating object is from a high-altitude aerial view. This project is aimed to introduce a quick response system that integrates surveillance and potentially environmental research – extracting key data from the water bodies. This creates a system of data accumulation that can potentially be used to identify key points regarding the water bodies. This will have a positive impact on better identity and potentially preserving the waterbodies. For us to achieve this, we need a dataset that comprises images that are in the best interest of our project. We need to choose a model that is best suited to perceive and identify data from a high altitude. We need to design the drone or UAV to be able to perceive the environment with utmost precision.
