Description of Program

A streamlined and successful submission of a research proposal to the IRB requires that researchers understand the type of research they are conducting, as well as the type of review appropriate for their proposal. However, most educational programs and CITI training only give a broad understanding of these categories and definitions. This presentation clearly defines what constitutes human subjects research, provides comprehensive descriptions of the types of research that are appropriate for each level of human subjects review (i.e., exempt, expedited, or full), and whether informed consent or its documentation may be waived.
