Abstract

Course syllabus for COUN 620 Lifespan Developmental Issues

Course description: Students will analyze and conceptualize human developmental themes from the perspective of various learning & personality theorists. The counseling process, interventions, and strategies will be addressed in relation to the topical issues presented in the class. Beginning with conception and continuing through old age, themes include the following: Life stage transitions, human cognitive & social development, biological/physiological influences, self-concept, relationships, parenting, individual & cultural differences, death & dying, physical and psychological factors influencing health problems. Using the guiding framework of a variety of personality and learning theories, opportunity will be provided for practical application of counseling strategies and interventions.
