Abstract
Finding trends within a population and predicting the actions of this population has been a concern of many industries, from government to agriculture to consumerism to medicine, since ancient days. These studies would eventually become known as the field of statistics. This research is intended to delve into the history of the field of statistics, the uses of statistics both before and after its codification as a field, and the teaching of statistics at the middle grades level.
Included in the examination will be a discussion of educator preparation to teach statistics, the requirements set forth by teaching and education standards, and technology standards that can be applied in the teaching of statistics.
